Drain Guard
Catch Basin Insert for Stormwater Control
Use the Ultratech drain guard for sediment and stormwater management and providing filtration for storm water drains. Drain guards are BMPs, best management practices, that can absorb hydrocarbons like oil and other pollutants before they reach a drain system and corrupt the water supply. Catch basin inserts are drain guards that can fit cleanly into a drain catch basin under the grate. Watch our drain guard video below for more information.

Drain Guard Details
Our drain guard catch basin inserts come in different models depending on your site and work area requirements. The oil and sediment model filters and removes hydrocarbons while retaining silt, sand, and other contaminants. The trash and debris model is specifically designed to catch larger items and things that float, like plant debris or plastics like cigarette butts and pieces of paper trash.

To install a drain guard in a drain catch basin, you need to remove the grate. This can be accomplished through the use of two people lifting the grate and then placing the storm drain filter in the drain opening. Once the catch basin filter is in place, all you need to do is replace the grate. There may be excess material from the drain guard around the grate that sticks out, but you don't have to trim this. In fact, leaving the excess material around the grate may be beneficial for prefiltering contaminants.

Catch Basin Insert Installation and Instructions
Catch basin insert installation should be easy to accomplish. More than that, a catch basin insert in a storm drain should be low-profile, staying out of the way of pedestrians, vehicles, and street sweepers. A new drain guard can handle a flow rate of 90 gpm/ft2, and with over-flow ports, you can rest assured that our drain guards won't cause pooling or flooding in heavy rainfall events. A drain catch basin with over-flow ports is equipped to handle 770 gpm.
When filtering sand, sediment, or trash and debris with a catch basin drain guard, you can empty the storm drain filter, wash it, and reuse it. However, when filtering hydrocarbons like oils and other pollutants, it is recommended that you do not reuse these as they can carry contaminants from work area to work area.
Ultratech Ultra Drain Guard Frequently Asked Questions
The Ultratech Ultra Drain Guard can be reused if the drain catch basin has been used to catch silt, sediment, and other trash or debris. The silt and sediment will need to be removed before it is reused and any trash or debris will need to be disposed of. If the drain guard has been used to filter oil, fuel, and other hydrocarbons, it is recommended that the drain guard be thrown away instead of being reused.
Installing a drain guard is simply and easy to do. First, with the help of another person or some heavy lifting tool, remove the drain grate to the storm drain. Once the grate is removed, place the drain catch basin inside the drain and replace the grate. The grate will hold the drain guard in place.
