Mirafi® Non-Woven Geotextiles
Mirafi® Filter Fabric
Mirafi® nonwoven geotextiles are fundamental in designed projects, structures or systems, which include soil, rock, or any other geotechnical engineering-related material. Mirafi® filter fabrics are utilized in civil or environmental applications. Nonwoven Geotextiles are primarily used to separate aggregate, filter materials, and provide foundation to certain areas.
Mirafi® nonwovens are created by binding random fibers together to produce planar, permeable textile structures. Nonwoven geotextile fabric is perfect for landscaping, drainage, soil separation, erosion control, sediment control, cushioning and many other construction related applications. We offer a range of Mirafi® nonwoven fabric from light to heavy weight. Find out more about which Mirafi® filter fabric is right for your project by talking with one of our team members! Call today!

Mirafi® Non-Woven Geotextiles
Due to high flow through rates, Mirafi® nonwoven geotextiles make the perfect choice for filtration, soil separation, landscaping, drainage, and permanent sediment control. The rot-resistant, needle-punched fabrics are designed to have high permittivity and water flow rates. We have three options available in our filter fabric. First our Mirafi® Mscape is a lighter weight nonwoven used primarily for landscaping and weed control. Next, our Mirafi® N Series is more suited for soil separation and drainage. Our final nonwoven geotextile, the Mirafi® S Series, is stronger and used more for subsurface drainage systems and permanent erosion control. There are also thicker options available, but they are more specialized and heavy duty, See the different types of filter fabrics below for more information.
Mirafi® MSCAPE
Our Mscape nonwoven geotextile are primarily for soil separation and drainage for lighter landscape projects. This filter fabric withstands environmental problems found in a variety of applications such as parks, golf courses, and sports park construction projects. Mirafi® Mscape inhibits existing weed growth, while suppressing any new weed growth. Ideal for landscaping, Mscape permits a path for air and liquids, including fertilizers. Easily cut to fit any shape you need with simple tools or household scissors. This lightweight nonwoven fabric is most often see in drainage, landscaping, filtering applications, and asphalt overlay. Visit our Mirafi® Mscape page for more information.
Mirafi® N-Series
Mirafi® N-Series is utilized in transportation, building site, and water infrastructure projects for drainage and soil separation. The N-Series allows excellent soil particle retention by combining superior water flow rates, high soil interaction and durability. Because of this filter fabric’s construction, it easily conforms to ground or trench surface ensuring a problem-free installation. The Mirafi® N-Series is chemically stable in a wide range of aggressive environments, making it the perfect geotextile fabric for permanent erosion control, subsurface drainage, and roadway separation projects. Mirafi® S-Series
The stronger Mirafi® S-Series fabric is created for use in environmental, energy infrastructure and natural resource projects. This strong filtration fabric is the ideal choice for filtration, separation, drainage and protection. Mirafi® S-Series nonwoven delivers excellent resilience with high puncture resistance, transmissivity and permittivity. The S-series is perfect when employed as liner protection in solid waste landfills, fracking ponds, and other water management systems. The S-Series fabric differs somewhat from the N-Series in its material weight and thickness, which are included certified properties of the product. The Mirafi® S-Series provides an economical solution for many civil engineering applications, providing a cost-effective alternative to graded-aggregate filters. Mirafi® Non Woven Geotextile Applications
Non woven geotextile fabric is useful in stabilization, filtration, or separation applications. Our Mirafi® nonwoven filter fabrics have a variety of applications depending on your project needs. Mirafi® filter fabric comes in three weights: light, medium, and heavy. These weights indicate the thickness of the fabric, strength, and drainage capability.
Lighter weight geotextiles, like the Mirafi® Mscape are best suited for drainage and landscaping. Lighter weight filter fabric can be also be used for asphalt overlay to inhibit cracking in asphalt.
For medium weight geotextiles such as the Mirafi® N-Series, applications can include stabilization, erosion control, and drainage projects. Nonwoven geotextile filter fabric is commonly used around French drains and subsurface drains to filter out silt and allow water to pass through.
The stronger Mirafi® S-Series is commonly used for projects such as critical subsurface drainage, permanent erosion control and geo-membranes in landfill construction. Non woven fabric allows water to pass through the material, which acts as a stable layer that is not weakened due to water. Other applications for Mirafi® Nonwovens include:
- Concrete Casting
- French Drains
- Filtration
- Padding Layer As Under-liners
- Rip Rap
- Sea Walls

Non Woven Geotextile Fabric Frequently Asked Questions
Non woven geotextile fabric is a synthetic permeable fabric made by needle-punching the fibers during manufacture. This makes the fabric easily recognized by its felt-like appearance and texture. Non woven geotextiles are commonly used for filtration or separation in construction or erosion control projects.
Geotextiles are classified as either woven or non woven. As the name indicates, the main difference between the two products is how they are manufactured. Woven geotextiles are woven with industrial looms in a consistently applied pattern. Non woven geotextiles are manufactured with a needle-punch process, using barbed needles to create a felt-like permeable fabric.
