Permeable Silt Curtains
Turbidity Curtains With Geotextile Filter Screens
Built for demanding conditions, permeable silt curtains are specifically designed for silt and turbidity control in areas with fast water, waves or other challenging environments. Permeable turbidity curtains (also known as silt curtain or silt barriers) feature a geotextile filter panel or window to relieve pressure on the curtain and allow faster water flow through while still are very efficiently containing silt and turbid water.

Permeable Silt Curtain Benefits
- Options let you pick the model to fit project site conditions
- Provides filtration of turbidity from containment area
- By permitting some flow, it can lessen pressure on the curtain
Type 1 Geo Permeable Silt Curtain Details
The Type 1 Geo Curtain is unlike any of our other floating turbidity curtains. While most permeable models feature a geo panel within the skirt, Type 1 Geo Curtains feature a construction that is made entirely of 8 oz. filter fabric. This reduces the pressure put on the silt screen by allowing water to continue flowing through the curtain while filtering silt and giving it time to settle. The geotextile fabric's permeable properties increase the curtain's ability to filter and is is well suited for areas with low flows and temporary containment requirements. Geo curtains are commonly used in:
- Ditches
- Canals
- Shallow Streams
- Low Flow Areas
Type 2 and Type 3 Permeable Silt Curtains Details
Type 2 and Type 3 Permeable Silt Curtain is for use in marine construction that's located in waters with currents greater than 1 knot, or that are prone to waves or tides. For these conditions, the permeter of th permeable silt curtains need to be reinforced with pvc fabric to addd strength and durability. This design still meets compliance requirements for sediment containment, yet permits filtered flow-through to relieve strain on the curtain.

Permeable Silt Curtain Fabric and Components and Applications
When using silt screens in salt water we recommend upgrading the tension cables and connectors. While standard barriers come with galvanized steel components, stainless steel or zinc anode additions are preferredfor salt water or other corrosive environments. These additions will help prevent corrosion and increase the life span and performance of your permeable silt barrier. Alternative fabrics are also available for extended deployment in areas with high pH levels, high or low temperatures or in areas where chemicals are present.
Permeable Silt Curtains Frequently Asked Questions
Permeable turbidity curtains are typically offered in three different models: Type 1 Geo Curtain, Type 2, and Type Permeable Curtain. While standard differences exist between the various models (bottom cable, tension cable), the main difference lies in the fabric and construction, designed to fit certain project site conditions.
Permeable Silt and Turbidity Curtains are most commonly used in areas where some flow through is required either due to project requirements, high currents or extreme pressure. The bottom filter panel reduces pressure on the curtain by allowing water to flow through at a faster rate, while still containing silt.
